A few months later, a girl in my class at school had a brand ABBA 48th anniversary 1972 2020 thank you for the memories shirt new copy of Greatest Hits, and I begged her to lend it to me so that I could tape it. Reluctantly she did, and I used my sister’s very cheap radio-cassette player to make a (mono) copy of it. I played that tape to death, even though the quality was very ordinary. My favorite song off that album became Honey, Honey, which in my early teenage hormonal state, I felt was somehow quite erotic! Many of the songs seemed fairly average, with only one or two stand-outs, though some were hits later on, like Mamma Mia. (And I decided quite early on that I hated “I do, I do…”) I assumed I’d just not been paying attention; it never occurred to me that it was just the way the music industry worked to hype a band up a bit – so I guess it worked!
