I have lived here almost 20 years now, A whole lot of Jesus all I need today is a little bit of Texans shirt and although I don’t agree that “we are reminding ourselves that we are so special,” I do agree that Texas probably announces it’s State Pride more often and louder than any other state. I think it is a “feedback loop.” When I first heard Texans having Texas pride, I was a little put-off. Why do you keep telling me how great Texas is? But after I lived here a little while, I figured out what was going on. Everybody proclaims Texas pride (the native Texans don’t even realize it isn’t normal in the other states), and because of that it’s become like a club you can’t help but joining. So, when “outsiders” are around, you can be one of the cool Texas Pride people, or you can be an outsider. Well, I live with all these Texas Pride people, and if you can’t beat them, join them.

Then, it is reinforced at every level. Government and A whole lot of Jesus all I need today is a little bit of Texans shirt businesses figure, “Hey! Texas pride, maybe we can get more people to vote for us if we also proclaim Texas Pride.” or “Maybe people will buy our stuff if we claim how Texas is great, and how Texas we are!” So by constantly being shown this “Texas Pride” imagery, pretty soon we start to think it’s normal, and the state pride that we espouse is just what everybody does. We don’t notice it. We don’t really notice that these commercials are state-specific… we just think it’s like that everywhere, but it’s not. It’s a feedback loop. We hear it, then we say it, making more people hear it, and more people say it, over and over again!
